RASCAL CHILDREN'S THEATER
producing new plays and original adaptations of classic works for kids

Rascal Children's Theater opened on Saturday, July 22, 2006 with A.A. Milne's The Ugly Duckling, directed by Artistic Director Dan Foss.  The cast included Lisa Stran White, Nate White, Eric Prahl, Natasha Kasprzyk, Amanda Lanier, Amber Nelson, and Ashland Thomas, with a special cameo appearance by Bernadette White as the Queen's Royal Lapdog.

On Saturday, August 26th, Rascal introduced an audience favorite in Cinderella Goes Disco by Shubert Fendrich.  The disco dancing cast featured Marie Antoinette Flores, Alex Goodrich, Victoria Kallay, and Venessa Ortega, again under the direction of Dan Foss.
To celebrate Halloween, we presented a new adaptation of Washington Irving's classic spooky tale of the headless horseman, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow beginning October 7th, 2006.  Adapted and directed by Jessica Hutchinson, the ensemble cast included Eric Prahl, Jamie Bragg, Layne Manzer, Andrew Marchetti, Brianna Sloane, and Katie Frient.  Esteban Cruz provided excellent choreography.

Beginning November 18, Rascal presented a wacky Christmas comedy, Rough Night at the North Pole by Craig Alpaugh.  Directed by Kate Lindberg, Rough Night featured Rascal alums Nate White and Marie Antoinette Flores, as well as newcomers Matt Bolte, Amee Coffelt, Zoe Marshall-Rashid, and Erin Michael.

To start off 2007, Rascal opened The Princess Who Would Not Marry, a comedy about a feminist princess on January 13.  Director Meredith Melville assembled an energetic cast including Miquela Cruz, Chris Hill, Chris Roe, Laurel Schroeder, Megan Faye Schutt, and Douglas Werder.

Rounding out our first year was a world-premiere comedy by Chicago playwright Barbara Lhota titled The Nerdy Girl and the Intergalactic Dog.  Lhota created the adorable show about friendship and acceptance specifically for Rascal Children's Theater and we were very proud to produce her first play for young audiences.  Dan Foss directed a cast of Rascal and Rogue Theater favorites:  Lisa Herceg, Eric Prahl, Hayley Rice, Jennifer Milton, Erin Wade, Nate Daigle, Lauren White, and Foss himself.  Nerdy Girl... premiered on Saturday, May 19 and ended Rascal's tenure in Andersonville on June 30, 2007.
